Books of wood life

Each board that is sold comes with a wood book. The book, with a wood cover that matches the timber patterns, includes photos of the complete build for that board, plus other information needed for riding and maintaining the board. A bit like a wood baby book for your new board. This book is on display at AKWA in beautiful Milton on the NSW South Coast.

A wood fence into a board?

This pic reminds me I need a new fence....wonder if any of the timber can find its way into a board. Deck, fins, nose block??

Wood stripes and 4 fins

A quad for me. It is 6'4" x 21" x 2.75". Has a single concave into a spiral vee and rides more like a twin fin that a modern day quad. It is a good and bad thing but this board has spent more time on display, at the wood board day and at AKWA surf than it has been surfed. But that is changing.

Andrew Wells also brought to the wood board day at the Alley some beautiful boards taht featured artwork by one of his artist friends. Beautiful.

Wood burning

Summer has come very early and we have fires on our doorstep already. Thank god no loss of life and so far limited loss of property. My friend Darryl Snow took this amazing photo on Sunday. See the helicopter in the lower right corner, like a mozzie in the smoke.

Wood souls at AKWA Surf party Sat Sep 5

A hollow wood quad by Peter Wells of wood souls will be at AKWA Surfs big first birthday party. AKWA will also have a special display of 3 hollow wood boards by Peter for sale over the Christmas holiday break.

Check out the boards and all the specials this weekend at AKWA on the Princess Highway in Milton on the beautiful South Coast. And wander across the road to the Commercial Hotel for the pre summer Beach Party.

The Alley Wood Surfboard day

With a huge thanks to Grant Newby.
This was a great day on the sunny Gold Coast in August. At least a 100 boards and 20-30 builders attended with a constant crowd of interested lookers. The boards covered the whole spectrum of wood surfboards from Bill Wallace's 20 foot toothpick, to Roger Hall from NZ's beautiful multi-timber solid speed diallers, alaias, longboards, kneeboards, belly boards. Beautiful balsa single-fin guns from Dick Brewer and Richard Harvey. Builders came from the USA including Paul Jenson, Japan, New Zealand, and all over Australia.

Flex tails... well maybe

A first attempt to harness the flex of our woods in a hollow wood surfboard.

Well it was an attempt, more to come! I discussed the ideas with Paul Jenson, Roger Hall and others up at Grant Newby's wonderful wood board day at Currumbin on the Gold Coast. Lots of new ideas to play with. But for now it is a big fish. Maybe I should drink more beer to bulk up and flex this tail?
