A flex too far
The flextail fish had some pretty flexy fins with a large cutaway at their base as this pic from Paul Jenson shows. yeah well one flexed right off leaving me doing my best finless wood surfboard impression. Put some new ones on, moved them back a bit and also off the rail to get them more under my feet. Feels good.

South coast wood souls abound
Wood surfboards are rare, but Mollymook/Narrawallee must have more wood board makers per capita than anywhere else in the world. This is a great chance to see the fine work of some of my neighbours. This 9' longboard is by Dave Harrison. A few pics of its build with the last few showing his huon pine nose and tail blocks. The board is being glassed now and once the dust storm passes a launch is in order. But be warned these boards are time consuming and can become your mistress! Dave's lovely wife Kim has named the board Sally!!

Books of wood life
Each board that is sold comes with a wood book. The book, with a wood cover that matches the timber patterns, includes photos of the complete build for that board, plus other information needed for riding and maintaining the board. A bit like a wood baby book for your new board. This book is on display at AKWA in beautiful Milton on the NSW South Coast.
