New for Akwa in beautiful Milton

Three boards for Christmas at Akwa in Milton. Stoked to have Kurt and Matt so excited about these boards. A 9'6" classic nose rider, 7'2" jellybean single fin and the 6'4" stripey quad fish. A big part of me hopes no one else loves them because I would love to keep them. But a good home while I spend 3 months on my wood cored skies in the Dolomites is a good thing for them. You can see the build process in earlier posts. If you want a full log of the build just shoot me a note.

A double DD 8 footer

Another beautiful Mollymook woodie from my sounding board and idea man Dick Devenport. Its an 8 footer and will be a real delight.

More from Grown

Fellow wood Wells, Andrew, sent me some of his latest pics. Beautiful as always. A Simmons style sled and a curvy fish. The guy spends too much time in those long north coast point breaks... bastardo!!!

Mulch for the vege patch

Spent the day generating mulch. Shaving from the rails of classic style 9'6" noserider in amonst the tomatoes and basil. The board is a veritable caprese salad eh?

Nose and tail blocks

Nose and tail blocks take us back to the 60s but I love em. Really set a board off. These are for a 7'2" jelly bean single fin.

A flex too far

The flextail fish had some pretty flexy fins with a large cutaway at their base as this pic from Paul Jenson shows. yeah well one flexed right off leaving me doing my best finless wood surfboard impression. Put some new ones on, moved them back a bit and also off the rail to get them more under my feet. Feels good.

Jellybean single fin

A 7'2" jellybean shaped single fin. In tech speak the bottom would be some sort of tri plane hull...????? In english it is a single concave with slightly rolled sections outside the concave. It will have a 9 inch Greenough inspired single fin, out of wood of course.

More Mollymook woodies

Dick Devenport is putting his double D logo on wood now. Another 9 footer is well underway. We learnt a lot from this board, in particular how to change the rocker a number of times while building it! Pics of the finished DD masterpiece to come.

South coast wood souls abound

Wood surfboards are rare, but Mollymook/Narrawallee must have more wood board makers per capita than anywhere else in the world. This is a great chance to see the fine work of some of my neighbours. This 9' longboard is by Dave Harrison. A few pics of its build with the last few showing his huon pine nose and tail blocks. The board is being glassed now and once the dust storm passes a launch is in order. But be warned these boards are time consuming and can become your mistress! Dave's lovely wife Kim has named the board Sally!!

Books of wood life

Each board that is sold comes with a wood book. The book, with a wood cover that matches the timber patterns, includes photos of the complete build for that board, plus other information needed for riding and maintaining the board. A bit like a wood baby book for your new board. This book is on display at AKWA in beautiful Milton on the NSW South Coast.

A wood fence into a board?

This pic reminds me I need a new fence....wonder if any of the timber can find its way into a board. Deck, fins, nose block??

Wood stripes and 4 fins

A quad for me. It is 6'4" x 21" x 2.75". Has a single concave into a spiral vee and rides more like a twin fin that a modern day quad. It is a good and bad thing but this board has spent more time on display, at the wood board day and at AKWA surf than it has been surfed. But that is changing.
