This early quad fish, 6'1" x 21", was an experiment all round. I used a bead and cove method to build up the rails and simple panels of paulownia and western red cedar for the deck and bottom. Add some ply fins and ready for a trip to Scotts Head to test it. Life is good.
The wood is a new direction for me, but its also an old one, actually wood has been part of surfing from its first days. Despite all our technologies there is something alive and grounding when run your hands over a piece of wood. When you sit on the ocean there is a harmony of vibrations coming from your wood board.
I hope you enjoy these objects that may make "surfing pointlessly beautiful" (with thanks to Tim Winton).
